Returning one of the world’s most iconic video game franchises to theaters, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was officially announced in March 2024. The sequel takes inspiration from the acclaimed 2007 Nintendo game Super Mario Galaxy, expanding the cinematic universe introduced in 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
The film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, with a screenplay by Matthew Fogel. Production is being co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo, with Universal handling the worldwide theatrical distribution.
